History of Meenadchi Ambal Temple
With the vision of preserving Tamil art, culture, and religious traditions, and to foster unity, faith, and spiritual knowledge among Tamil people living in Germany and worldwide, Mr. Nadarajah Mahendran (now Trustee) took the initiative to establish a temple for the Hindu community in Backnang and its surroundings.
Foundation: On 3rd September 1993, Mr. Mahendran organized the AWF Ortsverein Backnang under the name Sri Lanka Cultural Forum. With the support of the people, the first worship and Pajannai for Sri Meenakshi Amman took place on 27th March 1994, conducted by Jagadeeswara Gurukkal. The temple administration was formally created, and Mr. Nadarajah Mahendran was unanimously elected as Chairman.
First Temple (Eberhardstraße 8, Backnang): With strong community support, on 15th August 1996, the idol (vigraham) of Sri Meenakshi Amman was consecrated by Jagadeeswara Gurukkal at Eberhardstraße 8, Backnang. Worship of Amman, Pillayar (Ganesha), Murugan, and Bairavar, along with special rituals, continued regularly from that day onward.
Expansion of Worship: In 2019, the consecration of Lord Sundareswarar (Sundareswara Peruman) with Ezhandaruli Ambal, along with the sacred installation of the Maha Meru Yantra, was performed in the Garbha Graha (sanctum).
Today: The Akhilanda Kodi Piramanda Nayaki Sri Meenakshi Ambal Temple in Backnang stands as a vibrant spiritual and cultural center for Tamil Hindus in Germany. It continues to serve the community through daily poojas, annual Mahotsavams, Navarathri, Murugan festivals, and other traditional Tamil Hindu celebrations, uniting devotees in faith and cultural pride.
